Michael Johnson: Felicity for Bass Trombone and Piano

Originally written for flugelhorn and piano, Felicity has been adapted for several instruments since its composition in 2015. The piece has a quasi-theme and variations form, with the opening lyrical theme and harmonic progression variated simultaneously through subsequent phrases. This song has become one of my most popular works in recent years and continues to be adapted to new instruments. The recording below is in the key of Eb major. The original key is F, which is ever so slightly more appropriate for tenor trombone or euphonium. Contact the composer directly if you'd like the piece in a different key.
