Whitwell, Craig: Found Objects for Unaccompanied Trombone
Whitwell, Craig: Found Objects for Unaccompanied Trombone
This piece is a highly variegated set of interspersed episodes. Part of my concept had something to do with finding a long forgotten-about box of memorabilia.
Within the music, there are spots for Harmon mute, plunger, quarter-tones, "doit", fall, trill, flutter-tongue, etc.
It is annotated throughout with comments such as "quasi wolf whistle", "wail", "ping", "grumble", etc., but it's all within a musical context.
Craig Whitwell, born 1948, Santa Rosa, California. Began playing professionally in high school. BA, San Jose State University, studying trombone with Bob Szabo. MA, University of Pennsylvania, studying composition with George Crumb and Richard Wernick.
Developed a long career in software engineering and didn't compose during that time. Recently retired and began writing music again, picking up where he left off, for unaccompanied trombone.
