The Lion’s Shield is a fanfare inspired by the imagery of knights coming together on the battlefield to defend that which they hold most sacred from would-be attackers. As I composed the piece, I actually imagined each player as a knight, standing alongside one another on the battlefield, and coming from different places standing together to defend their homes together as one- to represent this, the piece itself is built from different and small ideas coming together to form a larger idea.
